Description:

Is Magellan making a not-so-smart move with the release of its SmartGPS 5390? Well, we actually like the included Smartphone App and the social media features that include Yelp and Foursquare, in addition to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. We also like its high-resolution (800 x 480) multi-touch screen that displays tiles of information about nearby services, which constantly refreshes as you drive. However, we think that Magellan is moving away from traditional standalone navigation by creating a GPS device that extends the functionality of a smartphone. Hence, we ask: Are they trying to make out a case for consumers choosing a smart GPS over a GPS smartphone? Or is this rather a case of ?if you can?t beat them, join them??

Also known as Magellan 5390, Magellan RM5390SGLUC.
